We had a full backyard project with hardscape, landscape, BBQ island and pergola, and pool and spa. We also had a general contractor to build a 450 sq ft ADU. Leo was our “quarterback” for the project and moved the project along as quickly as possible. He made it seamless for us, the owners, and communicated well throughout the whole project. Our yard is beautiful thanks to Andrew, Leo and Krissy. I would definitely recommend CA Smartscapes for your project.

We couldn’t be happier with the work California Smartscape did on our landscaping project. Our home sits on a complicated, multilevel foundation and every other contractor declined the project due to its complexity. Andrew and the Smartscape team embraced the challenge and delivered an outstanding design that incorporated all our needs. The project included a full pool remodel (replacing crumbling 70s brick), new concrete, a safe and modern upper deck off the second story, a refreshed entryway, and a new outdoor living area to replace an unsightly and unusable wooden deck. Andrew’s 3D model helped us visualize the final product and he worked with us to incorporate slight tweaks in the design based on our knowledge of the space. Smartscape also phased the work so we could prioritize the pool and upper deck first. Leo, our project manager, was incredibly responsive and kept us involved in every decision. The finished pool is stunning with dazzling PebbleTec, modern coping and tiles, and our old jacuzzi was transformed into a luxurious jetted spa with smart lighting. The sleek, modern decking materials not only look amazing but give us peace of mind with everything up to code. The biggest transformation was replacing the outer wooden deck with a retaining wall and turf, creating a large fenced-in play area for our kids—something we never had before. Now we have space to kick a ball and have outdoor family movie nights. We started this project trepidatious, knowing that most contractors go over timelines and over-budget, but Smartscape completed everything in just a few months, with expert craftsmanship and within budget. These guys are amazing. Andrew designs and sets up the vision, Leo executes it to perfection and Krissy fills the yard with beautiful and vibrant plants. So responsive and quick to respond to all questions and concerns. Completely redid our backyard and transformed it from an archaic disaster to a wonderful space for family and friends.

We highly recommend California SmartScapes! Andrew, Krissy, and all the team helped us navigate a highly complex backyard project that consisted of hard scape and landscape to meet our pool installation and waterfall wall requirements. We had lots of needs: Japanese garden with a fountain, turf, concrete, and lots of landscaping! They were attentive to details, made sure that the work was quality, and stood behind their work, even after installation. We enjoyed working with them and got a lot of insight from their expertise and experience. We would love to work with them again for our next project!

We couldn’t be happier with our new yard! From start to finish, the CA Smartscape team (led by Andrew, Leo, and Krissy) was professional, responsive, and truly cared about getting every detail right. They transformed our space into something far beyond what we imagined — the pool, hot tub, and landscaping all came together beautifully and on schedule. We were actually so happy with the back and side yards that we added scope to renovate the front as well. The plant selection was outstanding, and the incorporated lighting makes it feel so lux. Communication throughout the project was excellent; they kept us informed at every stage and were quick to address any questions or adjustments. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail are top-notch — you can tell they take pride in their work. Our family now spends nearly every evening outside (and we entertain a lot) and it feels like we have our own private resort. We would absolutely recommend CA Smartscape to anyone looking to create an incredible outdoor space.

California Smartscape replaced our aging concrete patio, the concrete around the pool and added a sidewalk with beautiful tinted concrete. They contoured the patio to improve drainage. Our aged pool plaster was resurfaced with a pebble that makes the water a beautiful color. We chose new tile and coping. The steps were enlarged at Leo, our project manager’s, suggestion for ease in entry and a place to hang out. Especially for our grandchildren. An automatic pool filler was added, which we love. Our existing planters were filled with luscious plants. Lighting and a drip system finished it off. Everyone we worked with was professional, cheerful, easy to talk with, readily available, on time. CalSmartScape made my and my husband's lives easy - people showed up when they were supposed to; were friendly, hardworking, and conscientious in their work and in how they treated our property; and the team thought through the gazillion steps involved in transforming our plain landscaping into something breathtakingly beautiful without causing us stress. There were surprises here and there as is always the case with construction, but importantly, the team worked with us and took care of us. CalSmartScap is a well-oiled machine! If you need peace of mind for your project, they are the way to go.

We are in love with our backyard! Working with cal smartscape and team was so easy and they were extremely responsive. They were great about updating us with any changes and Leo (Project Manager) and his team were great and a joy to work with. What an amazing experience. Start to finish the staff at California Smartscape were professional, responsive, respectful and worked extremely hard to get our backyard project completed on time. We had an old wood deck, and a patio cover - now we have our oasis. I cannot state more emphatically how much we recommend their services. Positive experiences throughout, from office staff with coordination of work and payments to the foreman and magicians who transformed our backyard to our exact specifications. Would give 6 stars if I could. From start to finish, we could not be happier with California Smartscape. Andrew carefully studied our lot, listened to our wants/needs and planned the landscape of our dreams, all the while considering our budget. Project manager, Leo, executed masterfully and thoughtfully suggested additions to the plans that were beneficial to the layout - we could always count on him. Krissy has incredible knowledge and worked so hard to provide us with just the right plants. Our yard is so aesthetically pleasing - I smile every day when I go outside. Reuben and crew were extremely dependable, timely, courteous, and hard working. The job was finished on time - amazing. And, finally, Crystal was a pleasure to work with and kept the business end well organized. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Incredible experience with California Smartscape. Delivered my family an incredible backyard on time and the price we agreed on. From owner Johnathan, to designer Andrew, and my favorite person, job site lead Leo, it was just a terrific experience. Even after job was completed, there was a couple little things and Leo had his team out there immediately. Class acts and would highly recommend them. California Smartscapes has really come through for our plans and backyard drought resistant, low water, plenty of seating, shade, pavers, an awesome pergola and it ties into our side yard seamlessly like a glove. It's really so so nice now and we could not be happier. We experienced Total professionals, good listeners, really coordinated processes and top notch job focus by Alvaro and the crews that came here. Our designer Andrew planned for this dream and drew it with us, Gustavo coordinated, Krissy beautified and they were all specialized and so kind, creative and always made solutions available. We hired California Smartscape to completely renovate our front and backyard, a project of about 8,000 square feet, in two phases over the span of about 16 months in 2021 and 2022. When we first contacted CA Smartscape, we were immediately impressed with how quickly they responded and came out to walk through the property, talk about design ideas, and an estimate. Jesse created a beautiful design that completely transformed our yard, better than we ever imagined. As with any large project, it took a few months before they had a crew available to begin. Once they began, I was clear about a very firm deadline to complete the first phase of our backyard, which they were very vigilant to honor. Leo managed both phases of our project and was very easy to communicate with via phone, text, or meeting in person. Krissy was a fantastic point of contact and so knowledgeable about the many different materials, plants, and other design elements and really helped me refine my vision for our project. Her input and understanding of my personal style and preferences made everything go so much more smoothly and also made the design that much more beautiful. Crystal in the office was also very professional and helpful. Leo, Jesse, and Krissy communicated very well with each other to make sure all aspects of the project were covered and didn’t fall through the cracks. We highly recommend California Smartscape to anyone who is looking to do outdoor renovation. We are so grateful that we hired them to transform our outdoor spaces into a dream!

Highly recommend California Smartscape! We are upgrading our entire exterior, landscaping included, and unfortunately was having a bad run of contractors. A coworker recommended we reach out to Cal Smartscape and I AM SO HAPPY WE DID. Andrew's designs are fantastic and he really works with you to come up with the best plan for your yard and budget. He knows his stuff and is so fun to work with. Leo and the installation crew are professional, produce high quality work, and keep a timeline that is unreal. We used CA Smartscape for the design and construction of our project (front and back yards). Jesse was our designer and was excellent. He has a lot of design experience and was extremely patient, thorough and responsive to our feedback. Leo was the overall project manager and was awesome! He ensured the project was moving along at a good pace, helped us work issues and coordinated changes. Gustavo was in charge of the pool and spa tub and was also great to work with. Krissy helped us select all our landscaping and she is very detail oriented and goes above and beyond to make sure you love all the plants and trees. The entire ‘dream’ team was very professional, extremely responsive to our needs and questions, and were all great to work with. They were a super personable team and work together well. The quality of the work and execution were both very good. This was the largest project we have ever done and CA Smartscape made the process easy for us. We love the end result with our landscape design, pool/hot tub, hardscaping, patio area, fire pit, putting green, plantings, etc. We highly recommend the entire team and were very pleased with everything!

We used California SmartScape for both the design of our project, partnering with our HOA/Landscape Architectural review committee and for the construction of the project. In every aspect of the engagement, this team was professional, responsive, high quality and on top of things. Jesse York was our landscape designer. We LOVED Jesse's eye for detail and thoroughness. He has has a lot of experience in projects around our home so he know what the fire department and HOA asks would be. That made our task much easier. Jesse is also very amenable to feedback and partners amazingly well with homeowners. He really listened to our asks and ensured he incorporated everything on our wishlist and in a manner that fit our budget and wishlist. Jesse worked with us every step of the way and really ensured that we were comfortable spending the $$ allocated and directed our money spend in the best value for the buck. LOVED working with Jesse! Leo was the project manager on the construction end. Leo is an ALL Star across the board. He is extremely personable, is very familiar with the project, ensures the project proceeds at a great pace, is a strong partner on changes if any, gives great advice on where to spend $$ and is very familiar with construction codes, needs of his team, aligns every step in the most efficient way possible. In our case, we'd picked another company to do our pool construction and Leo partnered with the pool project manager to ensure communication channels were clear and handoffs were smooth. Leo was such a DREAM to work with. Overall, this was the largest scale project we have taken on and California SmartScape made it easy for us every step of the way. LOVE the work and the end results, love the people who worked on the project, ALL STARS all the way!

The team at California SmartScape is amazing! We could not be more thrilled with how our patio, pergola, and grill area turned out. Andrew and Sal had great ideas for perfecting the design, materials, and layout of our space. They finished the project on their exact projected timeline. The workmanship was excellent. We are so grateful for their ideas throughout the process - many details they suggested have dramatically enhanced the utility of the space (e.g., adding a water filter to the sink, choosing a larger fridge). When I saw the vision Shayna the designer at California Smartscape had, I had to make it into my backyard paradise. Sal, Rafa and the team were thorough and dedicated in making the vision a reality. I will enjoy this backyard for years to come! The last day, a house inspector was over and he noted how clean they worked and what a quality job they had done. He asked them for their business card so he could refer them business. He is somebody who would know and probably the greatest recommendation right there!

I talked to at least 12 landscape contractors. Our Fron, back and side yards had to be taken from dirt to design to working scape. Smartscape provided a designer that knew her stuff. She kept us from making hard and soft scape blunders and botanical mistakes. She provided a great color rendering with detail and specifications. The Field Supervisor Alvaro was super! He supervised most of the work, was my contact throughout the project, and was always immediately accessable when I had a question or ran into a problem. He helped us navigate the COVID supply chain issues and we moved things along well even despite the pandemic issues. His Crew Chief Carlos was outstand as well as his crew. Extremely hard workers and very meticulous, even the daily clean up was great! Smartscapes runs projects fairly strict. We made a couple of changes, and each change was ordered, documented, quoted, and timed. The Project came in pretty much on time and on budget. If you are looking for a professional landscape service from Design to Working layout with quality, on-time service, and attention to detail: then Smartscapes has got to be on the top of your list. They are not the most expensive and they are not the cheapest. I received quotes and calls and visits from companies that promised the moon, but could not draw it out, write it down, or give me a decent BOM and Quote. If you are looking for quality landscaping design, construction, and detailed work, Call Jessica, Shayna, or Alvaro at Smartscapes!

We just had our backyard remodeled this fall by California Smartscapes. The first word that come to mind is Professionalism. Nick, our designer came up with great ideas that really opened up our yard and made it more usable for entertaining while simultaneously transitioning plantings to make them more drought tolerant. Overall the yard has a much more high-end look to it as well. Alvaro, the lead contractor and the entire crew were terrific. They were always on time, worked hard long hard hours, were incredibly friendly and professional. They cleaned up every day, other then durring the demolition, our yard was spotles at the end over every work day. Alvaro responded immediately to any questions or concerns that we had throughout the process. Both he and Nick are also very honest. They never tried to up-sell us on anything, they made sure we were fully aware of any pros/cons of certain decisions that we had to make throughout the process. There were only a few minor issues along the way(mainly with the electrician) consider this review 4.5 stars, everything was resolved and overall we love our yard. We finally had an opportunity to "break it in" a few weeks ago. We had about 30 people over and there was plenty of shade and dining space, spots for the kids to play, areas for corn hole etc... it worked out beautifully.

The insight that Jesse provided in the design of the project went beyond our expectations. Alvaro and his team treated us with the utmost respect and were incredibly professional through the entire build out. Unlike other contractors in the past, his team took the time daily to clean up the site which I appreciated. In the end, the finished product reflected exactly what was shown to us in their architectural 3D renderings. We hired California Smartscape for a complete backyard redo. The landscape design was creative and stretched our imagination while checking the list of what we wanted. We had both pavers and poured concrete hardscaping installed and the craftsmanship on these were top notch. We really appreciated the thoughtfulness of the workers, every day they cleaned up any mess on the front driveway and street so that there was minimal impact on the neighbors during construction. We are cactus and succulent enthusiasts and the landscape architect was very accommodating in fulfilling our plant wish list. The reason for 4 and not 5 stars is that communication between the project manager, lead architect and us in terms of next steps and change orders could have been better and a few miss-steps could have been avoided. Overall we are extremely happy with our new back yard and with California Smartscape.

We used Ca Smartscapes to landscape our back and front yards. We were new construction so we’re working with a large dirt lot. Andrew was awesome to work with on design, goals, and budgets. They required no up front payment unless you loved the design they built and wanted to use them to do the work— took all the pressure off until we designed a solution that we loved. We met with many other landscapers and this was not the case at all. They even had us into the studio to do the whole HGTV experience of visualizing out backyard in 3D. When the work started they had a top notch team with a great project manager (we had Leo)- stayed exactly on budget and within the proposed timeframe. Would gladly work with them again and again.

I am very pleased and even amazed at the transformation of my back yard. First, I must compliment Jesse, the landscape architect who designed my project. I had very specific "wants and needs" which he incorporated perfectly. The renderings and plans were excellent. The job supervisor, Leo, was very impressive. Even though he was overseeing quite a few other jobs, he never forgot any details or tweeks I wanted in my project. He was always very responsive. It took approximately 3 months to complete my project. I'm sure it would have taken other companies much longer as I saw happening when my neighbors had landscape work done at their homes. Many days there were 5-7 men on my job; they showed up promptly at 7 AM and worked very hard all day. They would also clean up the site at the end of each day. They were very experienced, as evidenced by the great work they did. I am a very particular person, so I closely watched the work being done. Santiago was often on-site and always checked the plans to be sure the job was being built as specified, He also expertly did much of the work himself. My backyard went from having very little useable or functional space to a place where I can easily entertain 50 or more people. When the job was done they did the final TLC, as Leo calls it, and they even washed my lower story windows and patio doors that were bordering the construction site. Final compliments to Jessica the office admin person and Richard the owner of the company.

We had a blank slate at our new house and California Smartscape showed us what we could do with it. The sales presentation and 3D renderings were all done without having to make a dollar commitment which we really appreciated: they took the time to earn our business. After we signed the contract we had a few minor delays due to city permits but once the guys got started they really came through - just like the owner promised us. It just 3 short weeks we went from a diet front and back yard to our dream yard. Leo was our project lead and we absolutely loved working with him. He continuously went above and beyond to make sure every detail was exactly how we wanted it. California Smartscapes is an incredible company and really deserves all the praise they get. After a house fire destroyed most of our home and the surrounding landscaping, my husband and I started a search for a reputable landscape company that could take on the scope of our large project. We interviewed with several companies that were referred to us but they all lacked an interest in transforming our property. After reading positive reviews on the houzz site I emailed California Smartscape and was soon contacted by Nick. My first conversation with Nick, the landscape architect, left me feeling hopeful as we talked in length about our project and set up a time to discuss further on site. Nick spent numerous hours working on our project using his creative abilities to design a beautiful plan that incorporated everything that we wanted to transform our yard. Unlike the other landscape architects we spoke with Nick took a real personal interest in our project, he always went the extra mile to make sure everything was just right! The project manager, Leo, was also a pleasure to know . Leo is hard working, reliable, knowledgeable, and very pleasant to work with. I could go on and on but in short our yard turned out better than I expected . It is absolutely beautiful and our favorite place to spend time. Nick and Leo did a fantastic job and I strongly recommend using California Smartscape.

We contacted California Smartscape to give us an estimate on redoing our front and back yards. They had been destroyed by putting a pool in and by a large tree in the front yard that damaged the hardscape. We spoke at length to Richard and Nick about our budget and our ideas for the yard. The proposal they came back with was within our budget and had all the elements we wanted. We were pleasantly surprised because we had contacted others and their proposals were way above budget and did not have the elements we wanted. The crews that came out to do the work were wonderful. They were professional, considerate and respectful. Steve was a great project manager who attended to things as they came up during the work. Ruben was a good crew supervisor. He had a good relationship with his workers. Now that our project is complete, we couldn’t be happier. The whole yard has been transformed into a natural landscape with easy to care for low water plants, low voltage LED lighting and drip irrigation. We even have a small artificial grass lawn in back! If you need landscape work, this is the company I would recommend.

CS was attentive and suggestive to my goals for the property, listened intently, created 2D rendering of the project concept all at no initial cost to me. Had owner, Richard and designer Samantha actively engaged in making my plans for the project not only appropriate for the property but also worked aggressively to control the budgetary requirements. Compared to the 2 other designers I was evaluating, it was an impressive beginning. Project delivery, given the hurdles that we had to jump through, was amazing. Project Supervisor, Leo, was attentive to my desire to make changes on the fly as we laid out the project and was good to communicate and discuss the additional cost for change orders. The professionalism of the crews and attention to details was a very positive experience. Even up to the day of the final walk through. Having been through a massive landscape remodel of this kind only once before (not same in scope) I was impressed with their ability to manage all aspects of it's complexity. I could not speak more highly of CA Smartscape and their team. Would hire them again without question!

Very easy to work with and the results fulfilled our dreams. We did a remodel of a large backyard and worked with Andrew who did the design, including Plants, Palms, paver walkways, paver retaining wall, bbq island modernization, and more.
